Statement: I worked for 20 years in EU and international relations in the energy industry and was also for 20 years an elected politician. This has given me invaluable first-hand experience of EU, energy and environmental issues as well as a wider understanding of business and the world of politics and in particular local government. Although my first degree and much of my experience is in French and German, I have more recently spent a good deal of time in Brazil and am therefore conversant with many Brazilian issues. I am a past Chair of Council of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
