We are working with Charity Translators and other UK membership bodies to share links and resources which may be of help to those displaced and affected by the conflict in Ukraine.
UK-based translation, interpreting and language service associations and organisations have come together to respond to the rapidly developing need for Ukrainian into English language support in the UK. The task force consists of Charity Translators, the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), the National Register for Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI), the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC UK & Ireland), and the Association of Translation Companies (ATC).
The latest research from Rand Europe and the University of Cambridge assessed the economic value of languages to the UK in general, plus the potential economic benefits of improving languages education in schools.

CIOL welcomes the recent statement in the House of Lords by Lord Wolfson committing to commissioning a full independent review of the existing qualifications and standards requirements for assignments with the UK Ministry of Justice. The review is due to be completed before the new contract in 2023 and was in response to CIOL Vice President Baroness Coussins’ amendment and questions during recent debates in the House of Lords on the Police, Crime and Sentencin
As a UK-based and internationally-engaged, organisation, we can only be glad that the UK Armed Forces and diplomatic service have done what they could in Kabul and elsewhere in Afghanistan in recent days; of course we wish they could have done more.
