An introduction to voiceover

Why voiceover might work for you as a language professional and how it can help you achieve a more balanced lifestyle

Event report

Thank you for attending our very well subscribed popular event “An introduction to voice over”.

Elena Jiménez Alvarez gave a very informative and engaging talk about the work of a voice over artist which she illustrated with examples from her life and work. She invited the audience of trainee and experienced translators in the most encouraging way to consider expanding and adding variety to their skill set.

Elena described the vocal, technical, marketing and personal skills needed, as well as training pathways, how to find work, and she spoke about the need to network with professional associations and other colleagues to uphold professional standards and ensure quality.

For Elena, becoming a voice over artist meant a better work-life balance by controlling the amount of work each month by taking on fewer but better paid projects, and gaining time for the family and her own interests and well-being.

Elena described how she came to training as a voice over artist after experiencing the physical effects of working at the desk all day, as well as finding that she was working too many hours for often inappropriate remuneration. It was helpful that Elena was forward about the financial reality of language professionals. She illustrated how to price services to different clients like direct clients, smaller and corporate companies and recommended https://www.gravyforthebrain.com/ to quote appropriately and confidently.

We thank Elena for sharing her experience, knowledge and passion with us, and doing this with her, of course, very beautiful voice.
