Third International Conference on Linguistics and Language Studies

An academic forum and a meeting of minds, the ICLLS 2017 is organised by the CIOL Hong Kong Society and addresses a diversity of key issues relevant to language studies.

The Third International Conference on Linguistics and Language Studies (ICLLS 2017) was held at the Open University of Hong Kong, 29–30 June 2017. ICLLS 2017 was organised by the Chartered Institute of Linguists Hong Kong Society (CIOLHKS), and co-organised by: the School of Education and Languages, Open University of Hong Kong; the Department of English Language and Literature, Hong Kong Shue Yan University; the School of Humanities and Languages, Caritas Institute of Higher Education; and the School of General Education and Languages, Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong.

The Conference was one of the key events of CIOLHKS. It successfully served as a major platform for professionals to disseminate their latest knowledge and research on language studies. The conference brought together over 60 academics, researchers and educators from around the world to share their expertise and insights in the Conference paper sessions. Two distinguished scholars, Professor Rod Ellis from Curtin University, Australia and Professor David C S Li from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, delivered keynote speeches on “The Importance of Focus-on-Form in Communicative Language Teaching” and “Assessing the Monosyllabic Salience Hypothesis in Cantonese: Transference of monosyllabic English words into Cantonese, Japanese and Korean” on the first and second day of the Conference respectively.

The Fourth International Conference on Linguistics and Language Studies (ICLLS 2018) has been scheduled for 15–16 June 2018 at Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. CIOL members are welcome to attend ICLLS2018.
