Thank you very much to those who attended our talk on How to be culturally aware for International Success".
During the session, we discussed what it means to be culturally aware and why it’s important to be culturally aware when working with people from different parts of the world. We explained the 8 Culture Scales by Erin Meyer (“The Culture Map”) as a way of analysing cultures, going through the main characteristics of cultures around the world and we shared some tips on how to work effectively with multicultural teams.
Additionally, we did an exercise in breakout rooms to compare the way different cultures deal with certain situations such as greeting someone for the first time in business and personal context, conducting meetings, doing a presentation and managing projects. Everyone enjoyed the exercise and shared interesting insights from their own cultures.

Join the Gloucestershire Network on Zoom for a talk by Gloucestershire member Eva Túnez Salvador and her business partner Janina Neumann, on cultural awareness in business. Cultural and linguistic differences are one of the main areas businesses feel most challenged and “afraid” by when exporting to other countries. However, you don’t have to be exporting in order to need to be culturally aware. By simply chatting with a work colleague based in a different country or negotiating terms with a supplier abroad, if you are culturally unaware, then the way you communicate, move or even dress could harm your working relationship.
During the session, we will talk about the main cultural characteristics around the world, which problems can arise when dealing with multiculturalism and how to solve them, and how to build trust with your first contact overseas.
The talk will take place at 5pm UK time on Sunday 28 March. Please email email@example.com to book your place. You will receive the Zoom link nearer the time
