Procedures for Chartered Linguists called for audit

As part of CIOL’s quality assurance procedures to ensure standards for Chartered Linguist registration are maintained, we call a random selection of Chartered Linguists for audit on a regular basis.

If you have been called for audit, we will have notified you of the date by which the evidence required to support your continued registration as a Chartered Linguist must be received. Please ensure that the evidence requested is submitted by this date otherwise your registration may be affected.

Focus of audit

We will specifically be auditing these two key areas of chartership:

  1. Your professional practice
  2. Your CPD activity

Guidance

We've created guidance on the evidence you need to supply.

This explains how to provide evidence of your Professional Practice and CPD.

Please ensure you read the guidance in full before submitting your evidence online:

Submit your evidence

(Will prompt you to log in first if you've not already done so)

Assessment process

Before reviewing the evidence, the membership team will check your Chartered Linguist registration eligibility which will include your current membership status and the qualifications you hold based on your membership record.

Your evidence will initially be assessed by the CIOL membership team. Should the evidence submitted not meet the registration criteria a member of the team will contact you and we reserve the right to request additional information. At this point, registration may be provisionally suspended until we have resolved the issues. This may include referring your registration to CIOL's Chartered Linguist Registration Board for a final decision.

Appeals

Should the audit result in your chartership being revoked you will have the right to appeal under the current arrangements.

Questions?

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the membership team, quoting your CIOL number.
