Head of Membership

Jane joined CIOL in March 2015 and is responsible for membership strategy. Working closely with the Applications Committee and Council, Jane's remit is to continue to grow CIOL membership and to ensure that the service and benefits it offers members are valued and meet the needs of today's professional linguist. Jane is an experienced membership development professional and has worked with professional institutes and membership organisations for over 20 years. She passionately believes in the benefits linguists can derive from being a member of CIOL - from the networking opportunities to professional recognition and development. Jane is a Fellow of the Institute of Administrative Management and is also Chair of its Membership Committee.

Mrs Soheila PHILLIPS

Membership Manager

Soheila joined CIOL in 2007 and is responsible for managing, developing and promoting all aspects of membership and the Chartered Linguist (CL) Scheme. She works closely with the CIOL Applications Committee and the CL Registration Board on the admittance of new members and Chartered Linguists. She oversees the membership renewal process and works closely with the Head of Membership to monitor, review and evaluate membership services and benefits as well as assisting to increase the CIOL membership. She also represents CIOL at events.


Membership Officer

Yolanna joined in June 2016 and is the first point of contact for all membership enquiries, providing support and guidance by phone and email. Her duties include collating the requisite evidence for the assessment of all applications to join CIOL and assisting with the process. She works collaboratively with the Membership Manager. A native Spanish speaker and passionate about languages, Yolanna has a degree in Modern Languages (French and English) from the University of Havana, Cuba.

Mr Jack Sellen

Networks & CPD Manager

Joining in November 2010, Jack has worked in various roles for CIOL including as Networks & CPD Manager and Acting Membership Manager. His main priority is to improve CIOL's digital presence and systems, being responsible for the maintenance and further development of the CRM and website. His achievements include the development of online applications, renewals, Direct Debit sign up, self-service membership account management and digital certificates. He is an Associate member of CIOL and works in his spare time as a French to English translator.
