Surrey Translation Bureau (STB) is extremely proud to be exhibiting at and sponsoring CIOL Conference 2020. The event, previously known as Members’ Day, is being held on 6 and 7 March 2020 at BMA House in central London. With a comprehensive programme packed with workshops, seminars and keynote speeches, as well as opportunities for networking, it promises to be a fantastic event for freelance translators and interpreters, and other industry professionals.

CIOL has a long history of supporting language professionals and enhancing and championing their skills. It regularly promotes the importance of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and even provides a facility for its members to log their CPD progress online.

CPD is something that we place a lot of emphasis on at STB. In-house staff are encouraged to take advantage of any training opportunities that arise and to share their knowledge with colleagues. We are also keen to assist our freelancer translators with their own professional development and offer a range of training sessions at our annual summer event for freelancers in Farnham. Our CPD offering is not limited to our local freelancers as we have now created a series of webinars which are available via eCPD, a platform dedicated to training videos and webinars delivered by professional linguists, and specifically relating to the field of translation. You can find out more about these webinars on our website.

The advantages of CPD such as these training sessions and webinars and the seminars on offer at CIOL Conference 2020 are that they enable translators to stay abreast of the latest trends in translation, start building up knowledge in more specialist areas and improve their translation skills. This not only benefits the freelancers we work with but also benefits us as a company too. We are always keen to meet and work with skilled translators who are seeking to further their expertise. This is because by working with a high calibre of translator producing high-quality translation and revision work, we ensure that we can deliver first-class results to our clients.

If this all sounds like it matches your aims for your freelance business and your professional development, then why not consider attending CIOL Conference 2020 and come and speak to us there! As one of our translators reports: “These types of industry events have countless benefits. There is so much to be learned, not just from the talks, presentations and seminars themselves, but from the opportunities to network with other industry professionals. In just a couple of days, I learned tips on dealing with tricky vocabulary in my source language, working more effectively with CAT tools, improving my writing in my target language, and so much more!”

Meet STB at CIOL Conference 2020 on 6 and 7 March 2020 at BMA House in central London. Our colleagues will be available on the STB stand throughout the conference and will be participating in all the talks and networking events.
