Work in China: Language Lecturers in EAP sought (Associate Language Lecturer, Language Lecturer, Senior Language Lecturer)

Located in Suzhou, China, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an EMI university founded in 2006, the first joint-venture university in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees for 100 programmes. XJTLU also aims to become truly research-led and has committed significant investment into research development and the expansion of master’s and PhD programmes. The university has 21,000+ students and about 1000 academic staff from 89 countries.

At XJTLU, the English Language Centre (ELC) is a growing centre with approximately 200 full-time lecturers. We teach English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for all of Year 1, a cohort of over 5000 students the majority being enrolled in our Core EAP stream oriented to CEFR A2-B1 language proficiency students. In addition, we teach EAP in Years 2 and 3 and have a growing and vibrant Postgraduate EAP programme of 2000+ students, ranging from pre-master’s-oriented pre-sessionals to mock vivas and thesis writing boot camps for PhD students.

The ELC is especially proud to be only university in Mainland China to be doubly accredited by the Chartered Institute of Linguistics and BALEAP (formerly the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes).

The Opportunity (salary range: RMB 220K-400K per annum before tax)

With a new campus opening this year in Taicang (near Shanghai), the ELC is expanding. If you have a master’s degree (TESOL, Education and Applied Linguistics preferred), at least 2 years’ full-time university EAP teaching experience, and seek to build on your already successful EAP practitioner career, the ELC is seeking Language Lecturers in EAP to join us in China from February 2023 (work may be assigned at Taicang or our Suzhou Industrial Park campus).

We welcome applications from within China as well as from overseas. However, employment at XJTLU is regulated by Chinese labour laws and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with respect to obtaining work permits and visas.
