Join the CIOL Interpreting Division for an insightful online session on AI tools in legal contexts.
Discover how artificial intelligence is transforming interpreting in legal environments in this practical, hands-on session.
Presenter: Constantin Orasan
Constantin Orasan is a Professor of Natural Language Processing at the University of Surrey, with over 25 years of experience in AI, language technologies, and translation studies. He teaches at Master’s level on modules exploring how technology impacts translation and interpreting, including the use of AI tools in professional practice.
He is also actively involved in developing and delivering CPD (Continuous Professional Development) courses designed to help interpreters and translators understand and effectively use AI tools in their work.
In this 30-minute presentation, you will explore:
- Terminology extraction tailored to legal contexts
- The fundamentals of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and how it works
- Key approaches to customising AI tools for interpreter workflows
The session will then transition into a live demonstration of an ASR interface, where attendees can gain first-hand experience.
This will be followed by a 45-minute Q&A session, providing an opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and discuss real-world applications.
Designed for legal interpreters and language professionals, this session offers practical insights into integrating AI tools that are shaping the future of the profession.
Please note that these sessions are not recorded. We therefore encourage you to attend live. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your registration to allow others to participate.
