This presentation and Q&A explores common challenges in ASR-assisted interpreting and evidence-informed strategies for integrating ASR as an interpreting aid. It discusses how to balance mistrust and overreliance, understand the limitations of ASR, and make deliberate, goal-driven decisions about when and how to use ASR tools in the interpreting process.
About the presenter
Francesca Maria Frittella is an interpreter, researcher and trainer specialising in technology-supported interpreting. She has over five years of professional interpreting experience between Italian, English, German and Chinese, primarily in conference and business settings. Since 2018, she has provided training for practicing interpreters based on her research. In 2024, she completed her PhD at the University of Surrey’s Centre for Translation Studies, researching the skills and strategies required for effective computer-assisted simultaneous interpreting.
