Multilingual Parenting

Raising children bilingually or even multilingually is probably the dream of every language lover.

How can we turn this dream into a reality without it turning into a nightmare? Join us over Zoom to hear from Eowyn Crisfield from Crisfield Educational Consulting and Cate Hamilton from Babel Babies, who will share their expertise and advice on multilingual parenting.

There will also be an open discussion among the audience, so that parents with older children can talk from experience and everyone can share questions and tips.

Whether you are already raising your children multilingually and can benefit from some expert advice, or you are contemplating multilingual parenting in the future, this event is for you and we would love to have you.

3 key take-aways:

• Learn about multilingual parenting and the different approaches and techniques.

• Get answers to any questions and challenges you are facing raising your children multilingually.

• Feel motivated to try multilingual parenting or improve your current approach.

Come prepared with any questions and tips to share.

Speaker biographies:

Eowyn Crisfield is a Canadian-educated specialist in bilingualism, bilingualism in education, and teacher-training. She holds a B.Ed. in Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language, and a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, with specialisations in language learning and teaching, and bilingual education.

Eowyn has over 20 years' experience in the field of Applied Linguistics, and has a background that covers research, teaching and teacher-training, and supporting bilingual families. She is currently also an Senior Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University in English Language and TESOL, with a focus on the PG Cert Teaching Multilingual Learners.

Cate Hamilton is an early-years language teacher, mother of three young children, and a multilingual ambassador.

She studied English and Modern Languages at the University of Oxford, then spent a challenging, yet pivotal, year in Paris teaching English as a Foreign Language and working as assistant to the director of a language school.

Back in the UK, Cate did her teacher training in Scotland at the University of Glasgow and afterwards she cut her teeth teaching English and French in a colourful variety of secondary schools.

When her first child was born, she was amazed by his ability to communicate non-verbally, and then intrigued by the way he gradually developed language skills. This inspired her to embark on a new learning journey, investigating language acquisition in babies and toddlers, and applying her new understanding to the Babel Babies multilingual approach.

This approach has become her personal little language revolution and challenged the way she thinks about teaching languages to her own children, as well as the families and educational settings she works with.

Please note the event will not be recorded.
