CIOL's German Society was founded in 1986 to provide a useful network of contacts for members living in Germany. The society regularly holds events such as translators' workshops and study weekends all over Germany, and has a link with CIOL's Cambridge Society and the two societies have annual exchange visits.
This weekend the society celebrates its 30th anniversary with a Study Weekend in Weimar, under the heading ‘British visitors to Weimar across the ages' and includes talks and walking tours to the city's main attractions.
The focus of the anniversary celebrations will be a lunch for almost 40 guests, attended by both CIOL members and their guests. CIOL Council member and Fellow Judith Ridgway will attend from the UK to represent CIOL.
CIOL Chair Karen Stokes FCIL CL said: ‘Congratulations to the German Society on its 30th Anniversary! We greatly value our member networks and all they do to hold interesting and engaging events for their members and to promote CIOL membership and the languages professions. We look forward to many more years of working with our colleagues in the German Society.'
