Contract:                  Permanent

CIOL, the Chartered Institute of Linguists, and IoLET, its Awarding Organisation, are leaders in the provision of specialist membership and examination services within the languages profession.

In the last three years our Business Development Manager has helped us win (amongst others) two major government contracts, partnered us with 16 Universities, found sponsors for our annual Members’ Day and increased our network of overseas examination centres. We are now looking for a driven business development professional to maintain momentum in this important aspect of our work.

The work is challenging but rewarding and as part of a small permanent team of 24 staff the ‘day to day’ is varied and wide-ranging. You can expect to be out and about regularly with travel within the UK as well as occasional visits overseas.

On a personal level you will be customer focussed, proactive, adaptive, flexible, a team worker with independence, sensitive to security and confidentiality and have an appreciation of languages and cultures.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this is an exciting time to join a developing organisation with some ambitious strategic objectives aimed at improving our market position and achieving financial growth.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to strategic planning, developing the business and planning for growth
  • Preparing bids in response to tenders for language examinations or related contracts
  • Pursuing opportunities for sponsorship and fundraising to support core business
  • Prospecting new clients for existing qualifications
  • Identifying opportunities for new qualifications or related services to provide additional revenue streams
  • Extending partnerships with Universities and other client organisations
  • Representing IoLET at exhibitions, fairs and conferences to promote the IoLET and attract new business
  • Assisting with budget setting and control

This challenging role will suit someone with proven skills and experience in business development as well as a thorough understanding of the UK context for languages and qualifications and market knowledge of relevant industries e.g. translating, interpreting, teaching.
